I don't think he was better, only just as good and Fred did do acrobatics in some of his dances as well. It was producers and executives who kept Donald's talent from shining.

It's no coincidence that American men developed this kind of dancing at the same time that America men made us the world's industrial powerhouse. And won a global war for democracy.

In agreement with all who say how underrated he was! I think the thing that strikes me the most is how fearless, yet playful, he was as a dancer! (Also known to be one of the kindest people in the biz)

My second favorite dancer to Astaire, O'Connor was a great comedic actor.

Donald O'Connor was a much better dancer than Kelly or Astaire. His style was brilliant! I've never understood why he never got credit for his remarkable talent!!!

His studio wasted his best years on those talking mule pictures. And they weren't a studio that was big on musicals. If he'd been signed with MGM or Warner Brothers he would have been just as well known as the others.

West Side Story on a DVD has extras. Russ singing in his real voice. It was dubbed in movie. His real voice is better and it fits. weird.

Say what you like about the old Hollywood contract system. The fact that the studios offered up such thoroughly entertaining , well written, and acted Saturday matinee fluff such as this is to their credit. I loved this movie.
